Regional Social: Hastings Plowing Match

 —  —

2431 Queensborough Rd., Queensborough, Ontario

Queensborough-We write about it all the time.... But how many of us have ever actually plowed a furrow?

This is your chance to not only plow, but to join friends at an ECFWA regional social at the north of 7, Hastings County Plowing Match and Farm Show.

Aug. 24 will begin with farm writers climbing aboard tractors, and with Hastings plowmen as our guides, learning how to plow a perfect furrow. After that you have free time to explore the 10 acre match and tented city, before joining up for a boxed Hastings County lunch and a chat with the volunteer organizers who have made this 30 year old match the largest continually run outdoor ag event in east central Ontario.

The media plowing begins at 11 a.m - meet at the media plowing grounds. Lunch is at 1pm, in the main tent.

Later Loyalist college prof and blogger Katherine Sedgwick will drop by for a chat. "I... would love to just chat with them and hear what THEY have to say about the state of the business- particularly when it comes to writing about farming and food, big topics in our area," she says.

A veteran editor at both the Kingston Whig Standard and the Montreal Gazette, Katherine has returned home to Queensborough and its manse, her home in the 1970s when her dad was the United Church minister. Her blog, 'Meanwhile, at the Manse,' is a mix of observation, memory, history, humour and culture and is followed by thousands

The only cost is for the actual Hastings Plowing match admission, $7. You will pay as you enter the gate, but to register for the ECFWA event (for numbers) please email Suzanne Atkinson at zan@xplornet.com

Queensborough is 100k east of Peterborough and 200k west of Ottawa, just off Highway 7.
